In the northern San Francisco Bay area, MSMVCD is the Marin and Sonoma County representative of the Mosquito and Vector Control Association of California, a service organization encompassing 50 regional member agencies. The District maintains a small but highly trained unit responsible for the prevention, elimination or control of mosquitoes and other arthropods known to be potential carriers of infectious diseases, or presenting a public nuisance.

District Services include:

• Mosquito Control: Residents that are experiencing a mosquito problem or suspect an area that may be a problem can call and request a visit.
• Mosquitofish: Free delivery or in-house pickup of mosquitofish for permanent ponds or water features. *See below for seasonal information.
• Yellowjackets: The District controls active in ground yellowjacket nests. Residents must know the location of the nest and have it clearly marked for the Technician.
• Rodents: Residents having a problem with rats or mice may call for advice. We do not do inspections or conduct rodent control.

The District now services over 715, 000 residents in nearly 2,100 square miles. Each year the District responds to over 1,500 requests for service from the public in addition to a number estimated to be equal of calls handled without ever having to make a service request.

*Our Mosquitofish season has ended for this year on October 15th, 2011. Mosquitofish are not active and do not feed in the winter months. Our Mosquitofish will again be available in May of 2012 for delivery or pick up. In the meantime, if you need mosquito control, our regular services are always available to you.
