Cotati, CA - The Marin/Sonoma Mosquito & Vector Control District (MSMVCD) will open its doors on Saturday, September 15 for an intimate look at how the agency protects public health from mosquitoes and vector-borne disease.
The event, dubbed "Mosquitofest", is entirely free and will take place from 11 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the the district office located at 595 Helman Lane in Cotati. The event will feature exhibits such as live mosquitoes, insect tasting, a Bug Zoo, and even a collection of dangerous creatures. There will also be presentations on ticks, tick-borne disease, and rodent control.
"The event is designed to appeal to all ages in such a way that makes learning fun,"stated Nizza Sequeira, Public Relations Director for the Marin/Sonoma Mosquito & Vector Control District. One example is the Backyard Bugs contest, which encourages children to get out into nature and learn about insects. Entry forms are available online and can be submitted the day of the event, before 12:30 p.m.
"Most importantly, we want residents to walk away from this event with a better understanding of the importance of mosquito and vector control and the part they play in reducing their own risk of contracting a vector-borne disease," stated Sequeira.
