More Dead Birds Test Positive In Marin & Sonoma Counties

Cotati, Ca - The Marin/Sonoma Mosquito & Vector Control District (District) announced finding two more dead American crows infected with West Nile virus. One dead bird was collected from San Rafael in the vicinity of Thornwood Terrace and Tarragon Drive. The other dead bird was collected from Santa Rosa in the vicinity of Aviation Blvd and Brickway Blvd. Both areas will continue to be monitored for additional virus activity. 

Another Dead Bird Tests Positive for West Nile Virus in Marin County

Cotati, Ca - Just one week after announcing the first West Nile virus positive dead bird of the year, the Marin/Sonoma Mosquito & Vector Control District (District) has identified additional virus activity. An American crow collected from the City of Novato (in the vicinity of Laurelwood Drive and Silver Maple Place) has tested positive for the virus. Vector control technicians have checked surrounding areas for sources of mosquito production and will continue to monitor virus activity through additional surveillance measures.

Fight The Bite This Memorial Day Weekend

The Marin/Sonoma Mosquito & Vector Control District (MSMVCD) wants to remind residents to pack mosquito repellent when preparing for outdoor activities this Memorial Day weekend. "Memorial Day weekend is a time when many residents spend time outdoors with family and friends,” stated Nizza Sequeira, Public Relations Director for MSMVCD. "It is imperative that residents take personal protection measures against mosquitoes by wearing long sleeves and long pants, and applying an effective insect repellent to exposed skin," said Sequeira.
