Teacher Companion Site

  • This site is intended for teachers who want to prepare their students for a scheduled vector presentation, or want to continue learning about vectors after the classroom visit.

Before the presentation:

  • Our presentations are designed so that you do not need to do anything in advance to prepare your students for the lesson. However, if you have time, let your students know what vector they will be learning about and discuss the following questions:
  • What is a vector?
  • What do you already know about this vector?
  • Have you heard anything about this vector that you weren't sure was true?
  • What do you want to learn about this vector?

Follow-up activities:

  • These activities are provided as a means to expand upon what was learned in the presentation.
Intended Grade Level Title Description
  • This book includes step-by-step instructions for drawing a variety of local bugs (including mosquitoes, yellowjackets, and ticks).
  • Consider using a document camera or projector so that everyone in class can see.
  • Actual sizes of the bugs are provided, but they are only accurate if you print the document at 100% size.
2nd grade and up
  • This is a lesson designed to expand upon the mosquito presentation.
  • Students learn to identify and describe mosquito sources (places where mosquitoes grow), as well as determine if mosquitofish can be used in each source.
  • Use this lesson to compare vectors with other familiar creatures.

Mosquito-related rainy day activities:

  • Print out any of the following activities for something fun (yet educational) for your students to do on a rainy day.
  • These activities are from older versions of our curriculum that we no longer use.
Grade Level Title Description
  • Guide a mosquito through her life cycle.
  • Students partner up and hone their memory skills.
  • This is not just a card game...it's an arts and crafts project as well!
  • A massive and maniacal word search!
